EOTD: Estee Lauder Pure Color Eyeshadow Duo – 05 Khakis

I used to shy away from Estee Lauder because I believed that it is an “auntie’s brand”. You can’t blame me right, I’m sure I’m not the only one who feels this way. Besides, there’s nothing that screams “OLD” more than gold packaging. And it didn’t help that the only people I know who were using Estee Lauder were all at least 35 and above.

I only started trying out Estee Lauder in recent years when I started using their skincare range. To me, Estee Lauder has always offered star skincare products but little was known about their makeup range (besides the Double Wear foundation of course). With the recent release of their Modern Mercury collection, it opened my eyes to a whole new range of what Estee Lauder had the potential to offer. I first learnt of this launch from Elaine and I dropped by the Takashimaya counter to check out the Illuminating Powder Gelee. However, that did not exactly wow me as much as the Pure Color Eyeshadow Duos did 🙂

There were a few duos I was keen on but I decided to just get one first (since Metro 20% is coming up) and the one I chose was 05 Khakis.

As usual, Estee Lauder’s makeup products come in a navy blue cardboard box which housed the compact shadow duo. The gold packaging is luxurious, classy and sophisticated. It also feels heavy in my hands and that is an added bonus 😉

Khakis is a perfect name for this duo as it features a pearly champagne beige on the left and a greyed-out khaki green on the right. I love the embossed “EL” initials – it certainly adds a unique twist to an otherwise boring duo.

When swatched, the darker side appears more brown/grey than green. That doesn’t make the duo any less attractive though!

I have been playing with it for the past few days and this is my favourite school look:

The flash brought out the gold shimmers in the champagne side very well and seemed to bring out the green as well 🙂 This is a very quick and simple look done by applying the champagne colour as a base all over my eyelid, skipping the brow bone. Then I buffed in some of the khaki on the outer corners of my eyes  for added definition and depth.

Do I like this duo? Very much! It is a worth while investment because the quality is top notch and I find that sheen-y eyeshadows like these work better for school/work in contrast to shimmery ones from Japanese brands. Blendability and pigmentation of these are also commendable and very well just exceeded my expectations. These are worth purchasing during the upcoming Metro 20% sales 🙂

Price:

$50/3.5g  (a MAC eyeshadow single is 1.5g for reference)

  1. im jealous, you always make applying eyeshadow look such a breeze. i nv seem to get good color payoff with neutrals.. 😦

    • Thank you!

It’s best to invest in good shadows like MAC, Bobbi Brown or Urban Decay for neutral palettes, I find Japanese brands do them too shimmery and it might look too sparkly for everyday. And they are not as pigmented as western brands 🙂

  2. Wow, love the neutral colour. Might drop by Estee Lauder to swatch it. 🙂
