It’s been so long since I dropped by my neighbourhood Watsons! Spotted some new skincare and makeup products which I find really intriguing:
Dolly Wink has some of the most interesting false lashes ever and there are more designs to choose from now. Also included are brow powders, brow pencils and the likes.
Majolica Majorca Lash King is currently going for 15% off, great time to try out their newest products! This is MM’s latest mascara offering which boasts of 5mm super long fibres for well-defined long and volumised lashes.
I haven’t been using Garnier ever since my secondary school days (I was hooked on the whitening line) and I’m definitely attracted to the sweet floral pink packaging of their Aqua Defense Sensitive line! The original Aqua Defense line (mint green packaging) was very popular and I’m sure the Sensitive range will receive warm response too. I love the texture of the Aqua Defense Sensitive Essence (RP: $19.90) – very lightweight and easily absorbed. Certainly gonna give this a go right after I finish my current moisturizers 😉
Gonna end this post with a new polish from OPI Holland Collection that I’ve been wearing all week:
Picked up OPI Tickle My France-y some time ago but this is the first time I’m wearing it!
This is the awesome-est nudish pink to wear to work. Very nice neutral, appears lilac/pink with some brown/mauve undertones. Formula was excellent too, goes on in one smooth coat. I used 2 coats as usual. If you notice some shimmers, it’s because I layered Zoya Gigi over it (would love to wear TMF alone, but I accidentally smudged one finger).
Been really sick for the past few days, didn’t really get the chance to blog since I was mostly sick in bed and only managed to feel better enough to head out on Sunday 😦
Was wearing China Glaze Ahoy! over the past few days. Please excuse any tipwear because this was like 3 days of wear.
I wish my camera was able to capture these in their full glory. Ahoy! is a glass-flecked fuchsia-pink polish chocked full of hot pink microglitters even under indoor lights. Under sunlight however, the microglitters come to life as they appear gold and very sparkly. Super gorgeous when worn but the application was a little of a trouble because it was very goopy (like its popular predecessor – Ruby Pumps). Took a lot of effort just to get it to apply evenly (or it could be the lack of my hand-eye coordination since I was sick). Nonetheless, the formula for this wasn’t as good as the rest of the Anchors Away Collection.
Just a very casual pink look complete with pink nails for Ruo Xuan’s birthday last Friday 😉
When I first opened the bottle of Sinful Colors nail lacquer, the first thing I thought of was “Whoa what a huge opening!” LOL. Anyway. Glass Pink is a glittery polish with silver shimmers suspended in a baby pink jelly base. It took me four coats to achieve the colour on my nails and I apologize for the smudged nails + tip wear.. I was too impatient to wait for them to dry fully even with Poshe Top Coat on (FOUR COATS, seriously?) so I went about on my errands and got them all smudge-y. 😦
Despite the sheer-ness, this is a sweet colour to wear on the tips without being too girly. It is also sheer enough to be worn as a shimmer top coat and two coats would suffice to distribute the silver glitters evenly on the nails.
Wore Lunasol Summer Gradation Pink EX02 from Kanebo Lunasol Summer Collection 2009:
I had applied the pink shadow all over the eye lids with the dark plummy-brown as a powdered liner. It’s a lovely quad to own but the pink made me feel like my eyes look a little swollen 😦
I wore Zoya Barbie yesterday! It’s a warm medium baby pink with very subtle hot pink shimmer and is very girly!
Color Family: Pinks
Intensity: 5 (1=Sheer – 5=Opaque)
This is a very cute medium pink that goes on a teeny weeny bit streaky but evens out after 3 coats. The Zoya Armor Top Coat is fantastic, I’ve never had a top coat that works so well with Zoya polishes. I did not notice any bubbling at all even though many consumers complained about it. But I did try to apply my polish without getting in the way of a direct fan or sunlight. However the drying time is terrible. I had waited 3-4 hours before I sleep and I still woke up with a smudged index finger which was why I layered Poshe Top Coat to help with the self-levelling.
Bought some stuff recently:
Picked up the Mavala Scientifique Penetrating Nail Hardener which I read raves on MUA. It seems so amazing. Totally what I need for my weak peeling nails:(
I applied it earlier on before my change of nail polish and I noticed an immediate difference! My nail tips appear much harder like I had acrylics on. Am pretty impressed with it I’d say but it needs further monitoring. The brush is thin yet not flimsy so it’s very easy to control where the product goes as it was recommended not to get any solution on the skin/cuticles.
Also picked up this acetone-free nail polish remover:
I was against acetone-free polish removers because I was worried they wouldn’t dissolve the polish. I was so wrong. This one works well (though you need a fair bit of scrubbing too) but it definitely does not dry out my cuticles or nails. I had been using Cutex and it drove me nuts because my nails were so dried out they had this whitish film on them after polish removal.
This acetone-free one also contains Rose Hip Oil to moisturize the cuticles/nails so it smells great too (like rose, think Anna Sui). It is slightly oily so when you are scrubbing your nails you are in fact rubbing and massaging in the oil. I swear my nails couldn’t look, feel and smell better. Im a convert, this is the nail polish remover that Im going to stick with from now on.
Lastly, I tried out Zoya Barbie, a warm medium baby pink with very subtle hot pink shimmer. It looks really girly and cute on the nails!
This was 3 coats. Polish was thick and streaky. Took me a thick 3rd coat to even things out but with flash you could still see some bald spots *cries*. Bought and used Zoya Armour Top Coat for the first time too just so I can prevent the shrinkage I got with Poshe. Im pleased with it so far, the real test comes tomorrow 😉
Zoya Mieko is described as a “rosy pink with a touch of orange and tons of bold metallic gold shimmer”. The shimmer in it is incredibly beautiful and stunning but unfortunately, very invisible on the nail unless you peer closely.
Intensity: 5 (1=Sheer – 5=Opaque)
Original Collection: Flourish
Application was great as usual, and while the colour goes on quite opaquely, it took me 3 coats to obtain the maximum opacity (without VNL). As I had mentioned, the shimmers are not so obvious on the nails and looks a little metallic from far. It’s a cute strawberry-pink colour and does not look the wee bit odd against my skin colour though it’s a cool color 😛
This is my polish for work. OPI WNAP on its own is too boring for my liking so I layered ChG White Cap over it.
Sigh. It looks too feminine and “bridal-like” for me.
OPI WNAP (2coats) + ChG White Cap (1 coat):
White Cap adds a nice touch of gold shimmers to the entire look. The gold shimmers are more visible under low lighting. Prettiness.
Sara was described by Zoya as “pearls of dark fuchsia, red-violet, and ruby tones in a bright sparkle finish”, which made it sound like something right up my alley!
The description was fairly accurate, but I don’t see much of the dark fuchsia unless I look closely or under certain lights but they are definitely there.
Zoya Sara (2 coats):
Under the sun:
Color Family: Reds
Intensity: 5 (1=sheer, 5=opaque)
Original Collection: Flame
From the bottle, you can see a copper/fuchsia duochrome mixture but they aren’t visible on the nail. This is so well pigmented and easy to apply, I applied this in semi-darkness and I managed to keep the polish within the lines all thanks to the smooth formula and tiny brush. The brush is really fantastic, some people complain that it is too thin and small but I personally find it small yet firm enough to be springy and to deposit enough colour at once.
This does not appear like a common red, in fact it looks a little more magenta/fuchsia under artificial lights and is really pretty against asian skin 🙂 As such I won’t classify this as a red but more of a hot pink-red.
